School Board Representative Clarifies Comments
Region 17 Board of Education member, Richard Cabral says he was incorrectly quoted in the recent Hartford Courant article regarding the Selectmen's meeting on Dec. 22. Cabral says his comments about delaying action until the new superintendent, Gary Mala, arrives referred to the search to replace the three regional principals and not to the meeting about the middle school site. Cabral says he feels the meeting on the middle school site should take place as soon as possible; hopefully in January.

The Board of Education officially announced the hiring of new Superintendent of Schools, Gary Mala, on Dec. 22. The Board said they would wait until Mala was in place to begin the search for the HK High School, Killingworth Elementary School and Burr Elementary school principal positions. Mala is expected to begin his contract in early March.

First Selectman David Denvir, quoted in an earlier Hartford Courant article, said the Region 17 Board of Education should formally call the meeting on the middle school site because it had established the district's school building committee.
