Mr. Berzon issued the following statement: "Due to recent circumstances in my professional life, I am unable to commit myself to running in the special town election on Monday evening to choose a replacement for the vacant Board of Education seat. I regret the short notice for this announcement. However, as everyone knows, life events do not always conform to a schedule. I hope to be able to run for the BOE in the regular election this November." KDTC Chair Mike Sanders responded, "Our children's education is more important than party politics. We do not feel we would do the BOE or our children justice by hurrying to select a new candidate in such a short time frame. Therefore we will not run an opponent to the Republican Town Committee's nominee, Nancy Gorski, and we wish her well." This year we will walk our newest trail, the Beaver Pond Trail, off of Chittenden Road. The Land Trust Trails Committee recently cleared and blazed this trail around the pond. We plan to meet at 9:30 a.m. at the 80/81 parking lot to carpool to Chittenden Road, where there is limited parking. This mile walk will begin at 10:00 a.m., and should be completed about 11:00. This is a great family activity, with the walking suitable for children 5 and up. There are a few possibly-damp areas and one stream crossing. We hope this will be as successful as last year's walk - please join us for this beautiful woods hike. For further information, feel free to contact Trails Chairman Debby Butler at 663-2231. Directions to the trail: It enters by the double-white-blazed telephone poll at 97 Chittenden Road. This is .3 mile down Chittenden from Green Hill Road, and .7 mile from Route 81. Enter through the ground cover there (worn area) and pass to the right of the garage, which has some children's toys but is Land Trust property. Soon you head left, then right toward an old woods road. Follow the white blazes.
