To the Editor:
Over one year ago I asked the selectmen to allow me and some volunteers to build a baseball field on Bethke Rd. Little did I know how much support I would receive with letters, e-mails and words of encouragement. Many more people volunteered than was needed for this project. It was very uplifting to have so many offers to help in anyway they could. Whenever I asked a company or individual to a task, everyone came and did more than was required making my job simpler and just getting the job done. These companies and individuals through donation and volunteering made this a success. Their efforts saved the town many tax dollars, created a field immediately, and used less than half of the 45,000 authorized by vote at a town meeting last year! I am sure you all would like to join me in thanking these people for a job well done completing a little field that many kids' dreams, and memories will be forged for many years to come. Thank you Killingworth for seeing the value of this project, and thank you Volunteers. The last day to make payment without interest is February 1, 2007. The rate of interest is 18% per year; 1½% per month or $2.00, whichever is greater. New bills are not sent for the 2nd half. Use the same bill you used in July.
Motor Vehicle Supplemental bills were mailed in December and could be paid upon receipt, however they are not due until January 2007. Supplemental bills are for vehicles registered between October 2 and August 1. Supplemental vehicle taxes are prorated from the month registered through September. If you receive a bill for a vehicle you no longer own, you may be entitled to a credit or an adjustment. Credits or adjustments are not automatic; you must provide at least 2 forms of proof to the assessor's office, one form being a plate receipt from DMV. You may write one check for all your bills. Do not postdate your check; they are deposited as received. Make checks payable to Tax Collector. We do not accept credit cards. Save your receipts. You are responsible for maintaining your records for income tax purposes. The Tax Office is for collection only. All adjustments or corrections are made through the assessor's office. Monday, January 15, 2007Forms Available for Park & Rec UseAt a Town Meeting last November, residents passed an ordinance designating the Town Park and Recreation Commission as the permitting authority for all activities on any park, athletic field, or playground, and the sole arbiter of any dispute as to scheduling or other conflicts concerning the use of any of the said parks, athletic fields, or playgrounds. As a result, the PRC has prepared permit forms for individuals or organizations requesting use of Bethke, Rocco M. Reale Memorial and Sheldon Fields.
The forms as well as a release and hold harmless agreement are available at the Town Offices and on the Town Services page here on KillingworthToday.com. To review a copy of the ordinance click here. The PRC meets monthly, so forms should be submitted well in advance. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 12. There is a $50.00 refundable deposit required for any requesting agency (requester) using a park for a non-Recreation Commission sponsored activity. Proof of insurance and special rider designating the Town of Killingworth as an additional insured or signing of "Hold Harmless Agreement" is required. My name is Gabby and I have been lost for 3 weeks. I was scared and hungry and running and very confused but this morning I was found by some very nice people on Route 148. I am safe and warm now but I need lots of rest and lots of love. Oh yes, and some really good dog food. I would like to thank everyone who went out of their way to search for me. Thank you for helping me and for all your prayers... sincerely, Gabby, a grateful dachshund Sunday, January 14, 2007
