"Really Rosie" - Really a TreatA full house came out last night for the HKMS premier of "Really Rosie". Director Christopher Solimene assembled a talented cast of the fifth and sixth graders to bring Maurice Sendak's classic story to life. Sixth-grader Meghan Neeley does a wonderful job in the title role as a girl on Avenue P making the most of an "average" day. The supporting cast sings and dances its way through auditions for Rosie's movie, "What happened to Chicken Soup?". The middle school staff, parents and friends provided just the right costumes, sets, music and lighting to make the performance a visual delight.
Don't miss the final performance tonight at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 at the door. For more photos visit the Really Rosie Gallery

Killingworth Barns Exhibition

The barn is a witness to centuries of changes. In the past, rural Killingworth's barns were as essential as the houses the farmers lived in. As these structures gradually disappear from town, they remain a strong symbol of farming, tradition, hard work, and independence.
The artists would be pleased to receive suggestions for additional barns, or if you would like further information on the barn library exhibition, please call Sandy Smith at 663-1583.

HKMS Players Present "Really Rosie"

This children's musical with book and lyrics by Maurice Sendak includes music by Carole King. Rosie, the sassiest kid on her block of Brooklyn's Avenue P, entertains herself and her friends by acting out show biz fantasies, notably directing and starring in an Oscar winning movie. Written by the author and illustrator of Where the Wild Things Are and other popular children's books, Really Rosie is a jewel for children and adults. New York Magazine said, "There is such juicy vitality, such insouciant grace, such frolicking exploration of the waist high jungle of childhood"
Annual Greg Bousquet Wish Fulfillment Drive
The Killingworth Women's Organization is very excited to announce that it will be working with Helping Hands again this year to facilitate the Annual Greg Bousquet Wish Fulfillment Drive. The purpose of this drive is to collect and distribute gift items for Killingworth children and senior citizens who are in need. Toys and clothes will be collected for children and gift certificates will be collected for seniors. Due to the very generous nature of the residents in our town, past drives have been successful in fulfilling the holiday wishes of many children and seniors in our community. We hope our good fortune continues with this year's Drive.
The "wish lists" for children and seniors can be found in the main office at the Killingworth Elementary School beginning November 20th. Everyone in our community is invited to participate in the drive by signing up to purchase an item from the list. Unwrapped gifts for children can be dropped off at KES in the main office on or before December 12th. Gift certificates for senior citizens can be mailed to Killingworth Women's Organization, PO Box 952, Killingworth, CT 06419. It would be most helpful if the certificates were from stores such as Stop & Shop, CVS, Walgreens or Wal-Mart. For gift certificates, attach the alias of the person for whom the certificate is for, but please leave the certificate blank.
KES will be open between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4 PM for anyone who would like to participate in the Drive. If you have any questions, please contact Kristen Van Alstine at 663-3626 or Marni Lustberg at 663-5511.

To the Editor:
We would like to thank the Killingworth Fire Dept. for their quick response to a chimney fire at our house the day before Thanksgiving. Within minutes of placing the 911 call, trucks were rolling in the driveway backed up with firefighters ready to go.
The whole scene was handled very professionally and damage was limited to the chimney only. A few weeks back, we all received a donation request in the mail from the Killingworth Fire Dept. We would HIGHLY encourage everyone in town to take a moment and make a donation. Having been a firefighter years ago, I am aware of the high level of training and equipment that all towns need. We have one of the best Fire Departments in this state right here in Killingworth. It is our responsibility to help continue their growth into the future. Thanks again.

To the Editor:
Perhaps it's time to relate what has been happening since the Wettish Property was bought in 2006. In the past two years the Killingworth Park and Recreation Commission (P & R), has pursued vigorously the development of five multipurpose fields. We have organized committees, created documents, requested seed funds, dug holes, tested water tables, selected a design firm and presented cost estimates. The BOS, BOF, and other town Commissions have been very cooperative up to this point, but because of the latest high estimate cost I now perceive a reluctance to fund this project without cutting a field or two or abandoning the irrigation system. One million six hundred thousand dollars is a lot of money, but this cost can be brought down with prudent fiscal management of the project. The town of Killingworth needs multipurpose fields; this has been shown by the field study committee and by the overused conditions of the fields at Sheldon Park. Read more

To the Editor:
This is an open letter to all residents of Killingworth who own dogs. Having been a former owner of several dogs in my lifetime, I believe I can speak fairly to the issue of encountering dogs while out walking. I frequently use the roads in our town for my daily exercise. It is a always pleasant to encounter fellow fitness conscious people. Most times we, the people exercising, are not concerned with outside distractions unless a car passes (a whole other story and letter). Read more
