The Haddam-Killingworth High School Wrestling team posted its first win of the 2008-2009 season against wrestling new comer Old Saybrook/Westbrook Wednesday night at the new middle school. H-K got off to a slow start until midway through the match when its numbers were too much for OSW's smaller squad. With a slew of forfeits, H-K jumped ahead and never looked back as the door closed for Old Saybrook/Westbrook in a 45-36 victory for the Cougars.

Highlights last night were posted by Tony LaRosa in his 7-4 victory over Frank Navarro in the 140 pound weight class. Weather Advisory
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 am EST Wednesday.

Light snow will mix with and then change over to a mixture of sleet and freezing rain after midnight. The snow will accumulate 1 to 3 inches... followed by up to a tenth of an inch of ice. The precipitation is forecast to change to rain early Wednesday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.

Killingworth Housing Partnership - Over 55 Housing Questionnaire

As many of you know, the Killingworth Housing Partnership is evaluating the need for more reasonable housing for our younger starter families, teachers, first responders and our older citizens in need of housing more suitable for their needs as their children move forward with their lives.

Earlier in the year, we completed questionnaires tailored to Region 17 Employees and first responders, and also conducted a detailed evaluation of the tax implications of single-acre and multi-acre zoned properties. Our attention is now focused on our citizens who have reached the age of 55 and older.

Three weeks ago we mailed a questionnaire to every over - 55 household in Killingworth. We have received a terrific response to date but want to provide one last opportunity to complete the questionnaire and return to either the Town Hall or the library, where a special collection box is available. Click here to download the questionnaire.

Over the next couple of months we will be compiling the information. We will report the results to our Board of Selectmen and will also provide results of the questionnaire in Killingworth Today.

On a broader note, the Killingworth Housing Partnership is making tremendous strides and we encourage you to get involved. If any resident, young, old or inbetween would like to join our committee or visit any of our meetings, please feel free to email me directly at tony@apsavinollc.com, or contact either of our selectmen or our selectwoman. To read our interim report from earlier in the year, please click here.

On behalf of the entire Killingworth Housing Partnership committee, I would to thank you for your participation and extend a wish for a safe and fulfilling holiday season and New Year.

Thank you.

Uranium Levels Examined Statewide
According to the Hartford Courant, Uranium contamination poses a persistent problem in as many as 16 well water systems serving thousands of people around the state, according to a Courant analysis of test records from the state Department of Public Health.

The contaminated sites include Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford, a mobile home park in Killingworth and 10 condominium complexes in Brookfield. At those sites and in four other towns - Danbury, Kent, Madison and Newtown - well water systems exceeded federal limits for uranium in drinking water at some point in the past year.

In Killingworth, Jensen's Beechwood Mobile Home Park, with about 750 people, averaged 60 parts per billion over the past year. Town Health Director Edward Winokur said local officials have invited the DPH down to talk over the issue at a meeting Wednesday, 7 p.m., in town hall. Read the full story in today's Courant.
Happy Holidays from the Gorski Family and KWO
The Gorski Family on Wolf Hollow Lane and the Killingworth Women's Organization held a chilly but extremely successful fundraiser last night. This is the fourth year for the holiday lights spectacular. Residents and visitors walked through the many exhibits, visited with Santa and enjoyed refreshments with friends around the warming fires. Proceeds, including 100% matching donations by the KWO, will benefit the Jack Foundation and the Killingworth Seniors.
