Wettish Fields Have a New Mascot
Resident Bob Wettish, who lives across the road from the new ball fields being constructed on Parker Hill Road Extension, has offered his report of what he believes is a bobcat patrolling the property. Bob said, "Notice that the prints do not have claws at the end of the pads, and that the pads are not tear shape like a dog. Looking it up in my track book it seems to be a large bobcat. Bobcat tracks are 1 7/8" to 2 1/2" long by 1 7/8" to 2 5/8" wide".

According to the Connecticut DEP, "Compared to many wildlife species, bobcats rarely cause conflicts with human activities. Infrequently, they kill livestock, especially fowl, and attack domestic cats. Problems caused by bobcats are too infrequent to justify efforts to reduce populations. Bobcat attacks on people are virtually unknown. They are not a significant vector of disease and rarely contract the mid-Atlantic strain of rabies."

I am very pleased that Republican voters today recognized Linda Dudek's strong credentials for the position of Town Clerk and Claudette Lagasse's, for that of Town Treasurer. Killingworth will continue to be well served by both of these generous, responsible, and knowledgeable public servants.

I would like to offer a special thank you to all of those who came out and supported the Right Vote 09 Campaign's efforts in this election.

Historically, Killingworth's Primaries have not had large turnouts. The Right Vote 09's unofficial count for this election shows over 41% of the town's republicans came out to be heard. I thank you for coming with hopes that the November's election and future elections will receive the same high voter turnout. This shows that people do care and have the town's best interest in mind.Click to Read Full Letter

On behalf of the Killingworth Republican Town Committee, I extend my thanks to many: the poll workers, candidates, and everyone that worked so hard to produce the remarkable turnout. Most of all, I thank the hundreds of dedicated republicans that supported the caucus-endorsed candidates. Click to Read Full Letter

HKHS Touchdown Club "Buy a Brick" Fund Raiser
The HKHS Touchdown Club is creating a brick pathway, "The Cougar Path", that leads from the HKHS parking lot down to the lighted field. The Touchdown Club has been the driving force behind the installation of lights on the field. All proceeds from the "Buy a Brick" fundraiser will benefit the on-going effort to install lights on the football field.

Each brick is 4" x 8". You may choose three lines of type with 16 characters and spaces per line. You may also select any symbol to include, i.e. football, baseball, soccer ball, heart, shamrock, and many more which will constitute 4 characters.

Please consider purchasing a brick for $50 to honor your present, past or future Haddam-Killingworth High School graduate, athlete, or favorite teacher! Or have your family name etched on the "Cougar Path" for all posterity to see! Deadline for the first order is September 30, 2009. Click to download the application form. Please call (860) 345-2429 or (860) 345-3746 with any questions.
12th District Senior Fair Today in Guilford
State Senator Ed Meyer will host his first-annual 12th District Senior Fair today, Wednesday, September 16 from 9 a.m. until Noon, in the Whitfield Room of the Guilford Community Center at 32 Church Street, Guilford.

Food and drink will be provided, and attendees include representatives from: the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut; Connecticut Housing Finance Authority; state Department of Mental health and Addiction Services; state Banking Department; Aging Department; Attorney General's Office; state Department of Social Services; Orchard House; Hospital of St. Raphael, VNA Community Healthcare; Office of the state Healthcare Advocate; AARP; state Insurance Department; Connecticut State Library for the Blind; United Way of Connecticut; Office of Congressman Joe Courtney; Operation Fuel; Connecticut Alzheimer's Association; Connecticut Association of Homecare and Hospice; state department of Public Utility Control; state Treasury Unclaimed Property Division; Social Security Administration; Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation; and more.

"One out of every seven people in the 12th District is age 65 or older, including me," Sen. Meyer said, "and Connecticut has the seventh-oldest population in the nation. It's imperative that we communicate to our seniors all of the state and local resources available to them, and that we reach out to hear their concerns."

This year's event will bring together senior citizens from Branford, Durham, Guilford, Killingworth, Madison and North Branford. According the 2000 U.S. Census (the latest available for small towns), there are a combined 13,055 residents age 65 or older in these six towns - an average of one out of every 7.6 people.

Chamber "Business After Hours" at True Value Hardware
The Killingworth Chamber of Commerce invites you to join them at its September "Business After Hours" event at the True Value Store on Route 81 on Thursday September 17th, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The event is open to members and those interested in joining the Chamber. Refreshments will be served.

The event will be hosted by the Cost family, who have been serving the shoreline and Middlesex County since 1983. They have recently started a new chapter by moving to their new 20,000 square foot store just south of the circle.
The U. S. Department of Commerce along with the assistance of Congressman Joe Courtney are conducting research to determine whether there is a viable market for export of Connecticut Maple Syrup from our State, thus affording new opportunities within the State through export. To determine if production levels are of a sustainable amount for exporting, they need to locate maple syrup producers of all sizes in our towns - from small family tappers to full scale operators for determination of production capacities now and in the future.

If you are a producer of maple syrup within Killingworth, you may wish to contact Emily Halle at the U.S. Department of Commerce at (860) 638-6950 or by e-mail at Emily.Halle@trade.gov.

The Department of Commerce looks forward to working with you on this innovative project and helping Connecticut families and businesses take advantage of opportunities in their own backyards.

The September 15th Republican Primary fast approaches and I feel it is time we all remember what is of prime importance after we sift through all the commotion. What I believe to be most the most important issue is what is ultimately in the best interests of the citizens of Killingworth and who is best able to represent those interests. The RightVote09 candidates are all Republicans and are all equally qualified. We do not believe one has to be born in Killingworth to love Killingworth. Click to Read Full Letter

I am writing in response to a posting on Thursday, September 10th regarding myself and the other candidates with the Right Vote 2009 campaign. I greatly appreciate the wonderful remarks made on my behalf, however I feel that I need to make one correction. While I do have a Bachelor's Degree from Brigham Young University it is in Fitness not in Finance. As stated in that same posting I do have business management experience as well as years of banking experience. I feel the most important qualifications for anyone seeking an elected town position are honesty, integrity and a desire to serve the great people of this town. I feel very qualified to serve as the Killingworth Town Treasurer and fully support my fellow Right Vote 2009 Candidates.

"Right to Vote 09"... I am still waiting for answers..please help!
Eileen Boulay
Recently I submitted a document to Killingworth today.com with anticipation of receiving answers to my questions posed to the "Right to Vote 09" folks. I look(ed) forward to receiving the answers. To my surprise, I have received many emails asking if I received the answers to those questions. Click to Read Full Letter

I recently saw a primary election poster sponsored by The "Real" Republican Team. As a registered Republican in town for the past 25 years, I always thought I was a real Republican, but apparently I'm not as I am in favor of electing the most qualified individuals to serve in our town administration regardless of their party affiliation. No surprise then that I fully endorse the slate that The Killingworth Republican Town Committee has put forward comprised of many outstanding individuals that have and continue to serve this town very well.
