Auction Rules and Procedures

All auction items have been generously donated to the Library for the purpose of raising funds. Sale of these items benefits the Library and its annual operation. Thank you to all our donors and auction patrons.

1. Each auction item will either be on display or, in the case of gift certificates, be described on the bid sheet.
2. Bidding will begin at 2:00 p.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. promptly. Warning of the imminent closing of the Silent Auction will be given.
3. A Bid Sheet will be displayed for each item. To place a bid, write our Auction Number (given to you at registration) on the appropriate line followed by a bid amount.
4. Minimum bids and bid increments will be noted on the Bid Sheet. Please raise the bid by the minimum increment or more. Any final bid not following the minimum bid increment rule is automatically awarded to the last correct bid following these rules.
5. The winner of each item will be determined by the bid number that appears with the highest bid (and adhering to the minimum bid increment rule) at the close of the Silent Auction.
6. Winners of the Silent Auction will be announced as soon as possible. The process of inputting all the bid sheets into the computer requires time and accuracy. We ask that you please be patient during this process.
7. To maintain confidentiality, names will not be used throughout the auction, only bid numbers.
8. Winners must pay by cash or check on the day of the auction unless previously arranged. Please make checks payable to: KLA (Killingworth Library Association).
9. All items must be removed at the close of the auction unless other arrangements are made with the Auction Chair.
10. Please note, the tax-deductible amount of your contribution is the difference between the amount paid and the fair market value of the item(s) purchased if the amount paid exceeds market value.

Proxy Bidding and Pre-Assigned Auction Numbers

Proxy bidding will take place the week prior to the auction. If you are unable to attend the auction you may bid on items in advance. Your proxy bid will be the opening bid on the item(s) you have chosen.

If your proxy bid amount is not exceeded on the day of the auction you will be the winner of the item(s). You will be notified by phone on the day following the auction. At that time, you will be asked to make arrangements to pick-up and pay for your item(s) within the week.

In addition to proxy bidding, you may also call to obtain your bid number before the event in order to avoid registration at the auction.

To make a proxy bid or obtain a pre-assigned bid number, please call Shelly Cumpstone at 663-2747. Requests can also be made by email at xmastreesrus@aol.com.
