Our present Transfer Station needs to be modernized and relocated to the rear of the town-owned property and should be our second priority. With an ever growing population and the need to recycle so many materials, a modern Transfer Station is needed now more than ever. In recycling those materials that can be and not having them as part of the household waste disposal, the savings will benefit all of the people of Killingworth.
The third priority should be our aging infrastructure of roads and bridges. We should start by having an engineering examination of all roads and bridges. Having this in hand would then permit us to establish priorities within this area and move bond one package of infrastructure improvements with a life expectancy of 20-25 years.

I am very concerned with the views stated above! "We need to modernize and relocate the Transfer Station to the back of the town owned property" and alluding to the idea we are not able to recycle in the current location.
I have been on the Pay As You Throw committee for approx.5 years. In those five years we have looked at the Transfer Station day to day operations and have recommended changes and improvements to the existing facilty. I am proud to say all the suggestions we have made have been positive and cost saving to our town.
We were able to add Mixed Paper Recycling to the transfer staion, thus saving the residents $70.00 a ton for all the paper taken out of the Municipal Solid Waste (the compactor).
We are currently running 30% to 40% recycling to MSW. This is better than moct towns in the state!!!!!
There are no current regulations set down by DEP that we are not following. I believe we are monitored by the State DEP at the Transfer Station and we have a valid permit from the State to run the Transfer Station.
What is the great need to get a new and improved Transfer Station? Do you just want it moved?
Mr. Cabral was told by the PAYT Committee (last month) that Mr. Klein stopped the permitting process put into action by the Land Use Committee a few months back. The plan we spent thousands of dollars on in planning and permitting have been wasted. We cannot go back to the original plan, Inland Wetlands has changes the set backs and make the plans unusable (to my knowledge).
How and where do you plan to put the Transfer Station and how are you going to pay for it? You feel this should come before road repair and bridges?
There is no immediate need to move or modernize the Transfer Station that we have been told about. It has been working and will continue to work if we all keep recycling and following the rules. Amy Perry
