To the Editor: I find it interesting that the Killingworth Democratic Town Committee can adapt the rationale for their support of candidates to fit their purposes. They think that experience, seniority and being principled men are virtues worthy of your vote for Mssrs. O’Connor & Meyer but not Lieberman, Simmons, or Rell. The reality is that those virtues are always worthy of people’s vote. The real problem is that we all need to be pragmatic about what kind of change we want and how it can realistically happen. The first thing we can do, to paraphrase a high ranking Killingworth Democratic elected official, we need to get rid of “Senator Do Nothing”. Ed Meyer talks about delivering for Killingworth but is very short on results. Don’t you find it interesting that his big push is for Property Tax and Education? Would our property taxes be such a problem if the State House and Senate, controlled by Democrats, actually made a fair distribution of state dollars for educational assistance? Is the solution an increase in some type of state tax to be further misallocated? I think we all know the answers! My point is this. First we all need to get out and vote. This year’s election is for the offices that directly represent us in Hartford and Washington. Secondly, we all should take a hard look at who the candidates are, where they stand on issues, their experience and qualifications and their record of representing us. There is no doubt in my mind that electing Governor Rell will keep Connecticut’s house in order both fiscally as well as ethically. Even the NY Times agrees. If we want real change in Hartford, we need to elect Republicans to
the House and Senate. As far as Washington is concerned I am still pondering my U.S. Senate vote. The one thing I know for sure is that Ned Lamont is not the answer. For the House of Representatives we have been ably represented by Rob Simmons. Rob is a man of outstanding character and experience. On key committees for Connecticut, Rob has delivered for us time and time again. From the Youth & Family Services grants to being a key player in saving the Sub Base, Rob has worked tirelessly to represent us. Get out and vote for Rob, Jodi and Greg! We need them. John F.
