To the Editor:

It is unfortunate that a letter in yesterday’s Killingworth Today that purports to support Republican candidates and speaks of integrity is in reality about political spin, misrepresentation and name calling. Haven’t we had enough of Rove campaign tactics that create a reality that does not exist? Since the election of 2000, the Bush administration has led this country down a path that has divided us as a people.

The Killingworth Democratic Town Committee is supporting candidates that in its opinion can best meet the needs of the people and families of Connecticut, our State Senate and Assembly districts and the second Congressional District. Ed Meyer is a good man who genuinely cares about people. He is pro family and cares about economic justice. He understands the need to have schools of excellence. He respects the environment that, in part, keeps us living in this beautiful town. Brian O’Connor has worked hard to support the best interests of the people and town of Killingworth.

Ned Lamont has brought to the attention of the voters serious questions about the war in Iraq. His race for the U.S. Senate honors a 200-year-old American tradition of asking hard questions and asking the voters to consider what is a priority and what is a folly. If we are to honor lives lost and shattered, as well as to show respect for the democratic process, all candidates must ask intelligent questions about the war in Iraq. John DeStefano is running for governor and is also asking questions about the best priorities for our state. Joe Courtney is a man of integrity and intelligence unhampered by beltway fatigue. He is asking voters in our district to consider the best course for the nation’s future.

The Killingworth Democratic Town Committee respects the political process in the United States. We will not engage in demeaning our democracy. We respect the Republican candidates in their quest for political office. We must come together and stop this mindless division between Americans and plan together for the complexities the future is already sending our way.

Michael J. Sanders
Chairman of the Killingworth Democratic Town Committee
