To the Editor:

We are at the end of this election/campaign season. The Killingworth Democratic Town Committee has publicly endorsed Ned Lamont for Senator; Joe Courtney for the United States House of Representatives; Ed Meyer for the State Senate; Brian O'Connor for the Assembly and John DeStefano for Governor. As a political Town Committee, the KDTC does not engage in political distortion or deception.

We support those candidates, who in our opinion can make a significant difference in the lives of the women, men and families in Connecticut. All political parties run candidates, who they feel are honest, possess integrity and can truly help to create a better society. It is time to decide who the best candidates are at this point. The challenges facing the residents of Killingworth, Connecticut and the United States are truly daunting. Mr. Bush has changed his policy from “stay the course" to? I guess we will have to wait for the Baker commission to makes its recommendations after the election. Meanwhile our position in the world is diminished and Iran, North Korea, Al Quaida and a disintegrating Iraq pose serious challenges to us and our friends.

Here at home, we all know friends and family who have lost jobs, pensions, health care and any sense of security and dignity for themselves and their families. Health care is only a memory for many citizens. We all know something must be done to ensure that this most basic of rights in a modern society remains available at an affordable price. Every day brings another revelation concerning global warming and its effect on our planet. The recent British report is truly chilling regarding our future. The list goes on and on.

Ronald Reagan asked a simple question in his campaign for president-"Are you better off today than you were four years ago?" We all know the answer to that question. Six years of Republican control has divided our society and has put our democracy at serious risk. Mr. Reagan always had an optimistic side to him. There is little optimism in our country today. It is time for a change. Vote tomorrow!

Chairman of the Killingworth Town Committee
