To the Editor:

I used to like Joe Lieberman but he has a lot of problems these days.  While some see him as being viciously attacked by the “radical left wing” of the Democratic Party many Connecticut Democrats just have a bad taste in their mouths when it comes to good old Joe.

Joe’s biggest problem is that he has publicly and with heartfelt enthusiasm supported Gorge Bush in the lead up to the war in Iraq and also in every step along this wars road to catastrophe.  Joe has said that we who oppose the war and question the Bush administration incompetence in matters of war, “undermine Presidential credibility at our nation's peril."

Joe brags incessantly about having saved the sub base.  Most political insiders are aware that the Republican Party at the urging of Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert made a tactical political decision not to close the base.  The decision was designed to first help another Bush administration yes man, Rob Simmons remain in power in the second district.  Secondly Hastert determined that because good old Joe had been so agreeable to us Republicans regarding the war he should also remain in power.

The war is not the only issue however where Joe is just plain wrong.  Joe, along with Senator Dodd, has rationalized not enacting real campaign finance reform.  Dodd should consider this as well come his turn for reelection.  Joe was one of only a handful of Senators who showed up to question Michael Brown before he was appointed as the Director of FEMA.  He enthusiastically supported the instillation of this purely political appointee in 2002 even after his own questioning determined that Brown was far from qualified.  Joe has supported the gutting of FEMA by it being placed within the Department of Homeland security rather than leaving it as an independent disaster organization that excelled under the leadership of former director James Lee Witt.  Now Joe wants to abolish FEMA altogether.

Joes feels that the Democratic Party is just not listening to his political expertise gleaned through his years as a political insider.  Unfortunately bring such an out of touch political insider means that good old Joe is just not listening to the majority of his Democratic constituency.
