To the Editor:

John F. Amport recent letter to the editor regarding the upcoming election is somewhat puzzling.  Mr. Amport speculates as to why the most Killingworth Democrats do not support Joe Lieberman in this election.  The answer could not be more clear; he is not the Democratic Party' nominee and he has been plain wrong on the most important issues of our time.

In speculating why we Democrats do not support Lieberman I in turn am astounded as to why the Republicans refuse to endorse Alan Schlesinger and instead post "I’m sticking with Joe" yard signs right next to their Rell and Simmons signs?  Seeing that Joe is far more Liberal that any Republican in recorded history.

Party politics aside this election is about incompetence.  George Bush rushed our nation into war in Iraq and now our Son' and Daughter' are stranded by the incompetent leadership of George Bush, Rob Simmons, Chris Shays, Nancy Johnson, and yes Joe Lieberman, in the middle of one of the most brutal Civil Wars in history.  These are real men and real woman that are being killed in horrible ways over there, yet "Team Connecticut" and Gorge Bush have no problem using these men and women as political tools.

Jody Rell is also a staunch supporter of George Bush.  She use to refer to John Rowland as, "The greatest Governor the State of Connecticut has ever had".  While she sits on almost a billion dollars of surplus funds that she refuses to use to alleviate out tax burden or to help buffer the unsupported mandate of no child left behind Ed Meyer spends his time and considerable might in trying to ease our tax burden and rout out the last vestiges of the corruption that still exists in our state government.  Senator Meyer's opponent, Greg Hannan' positions regarding gays and woman have even the right wing Family Institute of Connecticut embarrassed that they ever supported him.

Rob Simmons describes himself as a tough leader who never backs down from a fight but he, Nancy Johnson, and Chris Shays all buckled under the iron fist of "The Hammer" Tom Delay.  When we needed our leaders to ask tough questions and find out the truth these guys chose instead to protect their own political power.  They asked no questions and supported this incompetent Presidents rush to war.

These rubber stamp bureaucrats also allowed this administration to suspend habeas corpus and gut our CIA, FBI, FDA, FEMA and other important government agencies by filling them with political operatives from the 'K Street Project' instead of finding experienced competent individuals for these key posts.  Joe Courtney who is an honest and courageous politician has proven that he would ask these tough questions and demand full accountability from this administration.

This is one of the most critical elections our country has ever faced.  Our brave soldiers are in the middle of crossfire of incompliance.  From one direction we see the bad decisions made by the Bush administration and from another we see entrenched politicians who are afraid to hold this administration accountable for its actions.

A vote for "Team Connecticut" has come down to this; how many more lives is that vote worth.  How many lives can be saved by one vote?  I urge you to join in the wave that is sweeping the nation and restore the checks and balances necessary for competence in government by voting  for Joe Courtney, Brian O’Connor, Ned Lamont, Ed Meyer and John Distefano.

Tim Withington
