To the Editor:

Killingworth is fortunate to have two excellent representatives seeking re-election.  Like Brian O'Connor, Senator Ed Meyer has fast become a true advocate for us in Hartford.   Among other benefits to our community, Senator Meyer helped win $250,000 in state funding for renovations to our town hall and secured $15,000 to fund a study to accommodate the Town's Historical Society Collection.  And, while at the Killingworth Elementary School spaghetti fundraiser for new playground equipment, he quickly sought out the chairperson to suggest she provide some information he could use to pursue funding at the state level.  He clearly loves what he does.  And, we benefit from his ideas, experience, and wisdom.

In the 2006 session alone, Senator Ed (as my son calls him) introduced 43 bills covering a spectrum of issues addressing the environment, transportation, children, education, health care, tax relief, and government ethics.  He introduced legislation to require CT provide to towns a minimum payment of $1000 per pupil toward the town's public school costs (unlike his opponent's articulated desire to fund private and parochial education with our tax dollars).  Senator Meyer has vision.  Another of his bills sought to have CT towns' special education expenses completely reimbursed by the government.

Senator Meyer comes to Killingworth to both formally and informally meet with us to understand our needs.   He is quick to return a call or email.  He is independent-minded and fights for us in Hartford.  And, Senator Meyer works tirelessly across party lines and with Governor Rell to find solutions for our District, for our state.

We are fortunate to have Senator Ed Meyer and Representative Brian O'Connor as our nexus in Hartford.  And, I urge you to vote for both of these gentlemen on Tuesday.

Sincerely,
Jamie Mowat Young
