To the Editor:
A true leader is defined as "a person who is in front, goes first,
guides and inspires others." When I put a face to this
definition, it is always that of my father, Richard Albrecht, a man that
many of you know and trust. I grew up secure in my father’s
presence, tagging along everywhere with him in my earlier years. Over
the 20 years I have been on this earth, I’ve learned a great deal
from him, the best teacher I have ever had. My father taught me what
it means to get involved in my community, how to address concerns
and problems and seek the best possible solutions. Not only did he teach
me this, he showed it to me by example, with his extensive work throughout
the town of Killingworth.
Because of what I was taught by my father, I became very active
in my community by joining the Killingworth Vol. Fire Co., Killingworth Ambulance
Association, and working at the state and national levels to stop underage drinking.
Throughout my high school and college years, I was grateful to receive numerous
awards for volunteering and leadership. I owe every one of these awards and recognitions
to my father who has been, and still is, my guiding light. From the time I was
a very young child, I would notice that whenever my father had a concern or a
problem, he would not just meander around the house talking about it, he would
actually get involved and be active in finding the solution.
On November 17th, 2001 my mother lost a 6 year battle with cancer.
This was a very trying time for our family, but as always, my father was there
to support us all. He always put the other family members first, making sure
they were able to cope with the situation. He even went out and got another job
to make certain that his family was financially safe.
My father cares for the Town of Killingworth just as he does his
own family. In fact, if you ask me, I would say that Killingworth is a part
of our family, a large part. I know that my father is truly concerned with the
future of this wonderful community and is striving to make this town a good home
for all its residents. When you fill out your ballots on November 6th, look
for the name Richard Albrecht. In your head should pop up the word LEADER. If
Rick Albrecht is elected, over the next few years you will be proud you
voted for him as you see our community shaped and guided for the future.
Sincerely,
Matthew Albrecht
