Marty Klein - The Present and Future of Killingworth
Although Margaret Thatcher will never forgive me, I am joining many
other fellow Republicans, Democrats and Undecideds in supporting Marty
Klein in his bid for re-election. Following the somewhat surprising events
at the Democratic Caucus, we are pleased to give our support to Marty
as an independent candidate.
Marty will be running for First Selectman, with John Amport as Selectman.
They'll be running as independents for the Killingworth Progressive
Party. Marty has done a terrific job and we should re-elect him. Period.
As such, we are holding a picnic at Bob Aft's residence (mansion) on Kelseytown Road in Killingworth on Sunday, September 30th at 2:00 pm. There will be food, a live band, lots of town folk and a good chance to offer our support. Bob has a beautiful home and it will be a great location to spread out and enjoy the afternoon. Please attend and offer your support - tickets are $20 per person, half price for under 12's and free for under 6's. If you would like to bring some food, please call Barbara Klein at 663-1833.
Marty has done a terrific job. He should be proud of the purchase of the Wettish Property for sports fields (a project which is making great progress in the planning and bid stages); the establishment of bond rating, upgrading our roads, the resolution of building fees at the Middle School, re-initiation of the Housing Partnership Committee and the establishment of other, relevant committees. He should also be recognized for simpler, un-noticed achievements like the upgrades at the Sheldon Park playground, the Town Hall computer system, the library and other town buildings.
Of course there were problems, such as the Reservoir Bridge situation, and we feel for those residents affected. But overall, many feel that the positives significantly outweighed the negatives. The fact is that whether you are a Republicans, a Democrat or an Independent, we should let Marty finish the job he has started. Many of us don't see the need for change for the sake of change, and we should support Marty in every way we can.
I am a Republican, yet I will be joining Democrats and offering my support. If you would like to do the same, please attend the picnic and also call Barbara if you would like to get involved in the campaign - there will be a meeting this Sunday to discuss campaign strategy.
We'll be providing more details regarding the picnic as it draws near, but please put it in your calendar. Until then, please join me in thanking Marty for his efforts and by doing everything you can to ensure we let him finish the job......sorry Margaret.
Sincerely,
Rob Artus
