To the Editor:

As Election Day comes closer, there are a lot of reminders of all the things that have transpired in the last two years that have made Killingworth a better place. There are bridge repairs underway, safer school drop off/pick up, better site lines at Green Hill Road and 81, just to name a few. Most importantly, people in town are donating their expertise and time to help Killingworth remain a small ruraltown with character. We have town residents working harder than ever on important issues from Library improvements to playing fields. From a community garden at the Bosco Farm to the creation of the Killingworth Foundation. The spark that makes all this happen is Marty Klein.

Marty is a businessman who knows the value of goods and services and works hard to get the best results for the Town's money. Unlike many "politicians" who tell you what you want to hear, Marty will spark a conversation that make you think and engage in a battle of ideas and ideals. Even if you don't agree with Marty on everything, you have to appreciate his forward thinking and his willingness to take action. Marty was the catalyst for the construction of the Bethke baseball field. He agreed that kids don't care whether they are playing on crabgrass or bluegrass but they just want a chance to play. Marty supported the volunteer efforts that let that field be built for very little money. We finally have a First Selectmen who gets out of his office, rolls up his sleeves and gets things rolling.

In the past, Killingworth's town "leaders" were more likely to look for reasons NOT to do something. The proof of Marty Klein's "can do" approach is evident all around town. He has taken on many issues that will make Killingworth a safer more attractive place to live. We should all make sure Marty Klein is re-elected as First Selectman so he can continue his efforts on Killingworth's behalf and we can continue the work in Progress.
