To the Editor:

I whole heartedly endorse Martin Klein's re-election bid for First Selectman of Killingworth.

When my family moved to Killingworth from North Carolina, in l995, I was nine years old; just entering the 4th grade. My parents, and the Klein's, served on the Democratic Town Committee together. I saw Mr. Klein frequently at our home and at local functions, and he impressed me, even then, as an impassioned person; someone committed to making changes for the better.

Marty is intelligent and studies issues thoroughly and thoughtfully before finalizing his opinion. His qualities that have made him a successful First Selectman include: his willingness to jump into controversial issues, his strong moral compass of right and wrong, his outspokenness, and his ability to lead others (whether they want to be led or not.)

I worked at Klein's Golf Range, the family business in Madison, for two summers, (2004,2005), with Mr. Klein and his son, David. During that time I was able to see Marty from a different perspective, as an employee. Marty came across as tough but fair. He was always thinking of innovative ways to solve challenging problems. I was impressed by his constant attention to detail to make sure things ran smoothly. Marty was always on the lookout for actions that would prevent difficulties before they arose. This to me, is the mark of a true leader, anticipating new problems, as well as solving old ones.

Marty has a passion for mentoring. I didn't know much about organizational management (nor about golf, for that matter). Because of Marty's coaching me on the fine points of running a small business I've gained valuable skills which will always help me. The knowledge I've acquired working with Mr. Klein, helped me become a member of Beloit College's (where I am a senior) Entrepreneurial Center, to work on starting up a history journal. Mr. Klein has a highly developed sense of what is important, and constantly offers useful ideas and suggestions, to improve the quality and relevance of anything I happen to be involved in. On a personal note, Marty is direct, energetic, funny, and an enjoyable person. I've derived a great deal of learning and and personal satisfaction from knowing Marty Klein.

Marty Klein takes his role as First Selectman seriously and enthusiastically. With no hesitation, I endorse him for a second term as First Selectman of Killingworth. I hope you will give him your vote.

Sincerely,

Rachel Berzon
