To the Editor:

When the Killingworth Democrats delivered their stunning vote of no confidence to Marty Klein by denying him the nomination to run for re-election on their ticket only a year and a half after he had gotten in under their banner, he thumbed his nose at their unmistakeable message that it was time for him to go, and went ahead to run as an independent.

But it is We the People of Killingworth who should declare OUR independence from Klein, for the same reason why our ancestors said goodbye to the King of England in 1776: monarchy is unacceptable to us.

We have already seen a number of letters here outlining the ways in which he has exceeded his authority, ignored the town charter, flouted state statutes, circumvented due process, defied accepted procedure, gone behind the backs of his fellow selectmen, and disrepected individuals and all the people in Killingworth while attempting to singlehandedly govern the town as the Lone Selectman.

I agree with the Democrats that it is time to replace the First Selectman.

However, I believe that it is the Killingworth Republicans who have put forward the best team for Killingworth, Richard Cabral and Fred Dudek.

Richard Cabral will work tirelessly to restore respect for the spirit and letter of the town charter, and return us to a town government of advise and consent by due process of the Board of Selectmen. This requires teamwork and selflessness, which Richard has already demonstrated. We can trust him to do the right thing rather than "doing his own thing."

Fred Dudek needs no introduction, having served the town for decades, and as an incumbent Selectman is the "voice of sanity" on the Board of Selectman.

I am proud to be associated with the Cabral-Dudek '07 team, and would encourage everyone to support the entire Killingworth Republican team.

Mike Butler
