To the Editor:
The lazy days of summer have some and gone and with them an
opportunity to have shown our support for Marty Klein by voting for
him in the Democratic town caucus. We only have complacency as an excuse
and were taken by surprise when the Kleins appeared at our back door
asking for our signatures so that Marty could run as an independent
seeking a second term as our selectman here in Killingworth. We gave
our signatures and vowed to help however we can to ensure Marty's reelection
because we know that Killingworth has the right man at the helm and
he should be allowed to continue the progress he's made.
Marty has accomplished a great deal for our town during his short stewardship
including the acquisition of the Wettish property and the establishment of
an athletic field plan which is now ready for bids. He has closed and remediated
the sludge lagoons, one less potential environmental headache for the town.
The reconfiguring of Alder's Bridge and Green Hill Roads has improved road
safety for everyone.
Marty has an amazing ability to balance the human needs and the environmental
needs of our town with the very real financial responsibilities which have to
govern much of the decision making. His ability to get right to the heart of
the matter on a subject is surely a gift. He is a no nonsense businessman with
years of valuable experience on the one hand and a compassionate, altruistic
neighbor the rest of the time. Marty's door is always open adn he gives his
full attention to the job.
It has been our experience that Marty isn't interested in the games people
play and we find that to be exactly what is needed in today's political climate.
We need someone willing to put principals over personalities, someone who
tells it like it is and if it is a problem he's telling us about, we know
we can depend on him to set about finding the best solution. We fell confident
that our town government is above board and transparent with Marty as its
leader.
John and I promise not to allow complacency by a failure to vote on November
6th determine our future. Not only should we reelect Marty as our First Selectman
but we should be pleased and grateful that he is willing to continue to serve
us.
