For thirty years, this town has had its most valuable natural resource, our wetlands and watercourses, protected by the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission. Throughout the second half of those thirty years, that commission has been chaired by a highly dedicated and knowledgeable individual - Wayne Addy. On Tuesday night, May 8th, Wayne, with much regret, had to step down from his position as chairman. He will be moving to Massachusetts to take on a new, and exciting, job within his field of engineering.
For fifteen years, Wayne has led the IWWC with fairness, objectivity and creativity. He has the uncanny ability to come up with solutions when particularly challenging problems have the commission and applicant at loggerheads. He thinks outside of the box.
While he will not be around enough to chair the commission, Wayne will be staying on for a few more months while he still maintains a Killingworth address. However most of his and his family's time will be at their new home in Massachusetts.
Wayne has shown that cares for the people in our town and dedicated himself to protecting the environment in which we live. As a result, acres and acres of wetlands continue to supply us with natural beauty, habitat for wildlife, and clean drinking water.
When you take a sip of sparkling clean Killingworth well water, tip your glass in appreciation to a man this town will miss very much.
