To the Editor:

When my daughters call home and complain that someone isn't treating them fairly, or won't listen to them, or doesn't appreciate them, I tell them, as gently as I can, to get over it. I tell them they have to decide what they want from the situation and figure out how to get it. Killingworth needs to do the same thing. We have to decide what future we want, and then we have to make sure we get it.

I am running for the Board of Selectmen to focus on two priorities: controlling rampant development and strengthening our community. If you elect me, I will consider every decision in light of those goals. I will take into account the unintended consequences of our choices as well as the immediate purposes. I won't settle for "good enough."

Don't let our town become just another suburb. Let's protect our open spaces. Let's find creative ways to make Killingworth cleaner and greener. Let's make sure that all the people who contribute to our community - our firefighters and ambulance crews, our older neighbors, the men and women who teach our children, and our children themselves, when they decide where to start their own families - can afford to live here. Let's bring our town together to build the future we really want.

Some of us can remember a better Killingworth, and all of us can imagine one. I will work hard to achieve one.

If you need a ride to the polls, please feel free to call me at (860) 301-1398.

Cathy Iino
