To the Editor:

Thank you for your efforts to improve the quality of life in Killingworth. The debate will continue between those that believe it is their right to determine how fast they wish to drive, and those that wish to protect the rights of the others that seek to maintain a better quality of life.

The speeders believe because they are excellent drivers and their cars are so well designed that they can best judge safety, but what they fail to comprehend is that this is not about their life, but rather about the lives of the residents on the roads they speed down, and how their speeding diminishes the quality of life for these residents. It is also about the other drivers on these roads that are endangered by their thoughtlessness. If they would sit on any of these raceways in Killingworth for a few hours or better yet, walk down one of these roads, they might be more sensitive to these quality of life issues. They might also read every week of the automobile accidents in Killingworth and how unsafe speed is almost always involved.

Education and life's experiences will eventually change today's speeders but a new crop will surely follow this crop. In the meantime our best safeguard against these individuals that chose to degrade the quality of life in Killingworth will be Trooper Ward and his radar gun. Law enforcement is a major concern of Killingworth residents and with any luck in this election year the voters will vote that Trooper Ward should have help.
