To the Editor:

Kicking off the New Year, the Republican Town Committee has elected to choose the same path that its Republican leadership in Washington has taken. The Republican Town Committee's recent "Report", which can be viewed on their website, has, as the Republican Party has done nationally, ignored the many years that they have been in power and the many years of inaction. That inaction has forced our current selectman to think creatively on his feet in order to solve the problems of our small town and repair or create the infrastructure that we so desperately need.

During the last few Republican administrations, the First Selectmen have had many expensive plans in place.  These plans were developed over long periods of time by noble, caring people who spent their valuable time and considerable efforts on the related projects. The longer the plans languished, the more money they cost to update and implement. Many of these plans would be valuable if developed. However, after the long years of Republican neglect, we are now forced to prioritize our efforts and only develop plans essential to our changing needs and budget.

Over the past year and a half, our First Selectman, Mary Klein, has managed to take the top priorities of the residents of  Killingworth to heart and has responded with action.  This action has resulted in the purchase of the Wettish property and the imminent development of recreation fields for our children. His action has also resulted in long overdue infrastructure projects that are, of necessity, short term inconveniences to some. Sure, Marty made some errors in judgment. Most of these were more of style than substance.

Like their friends in Washington, the Killingworth Republican Town Committee would like to place the blame for their past mistakes anywhere other than where it rightly belongs: at their own feet.
