To the Editor:
The good news is that many talented residents are
running for office. The
bad news is that we have to not only remember to vote, but also choose
only three of our seven neighbors for the BoS. Each is known for
contributing to our town in countless ways. All have proven capable. But,
there is more to it than just getting the job done.
Respecting one's constituents, property, and needs is important. Setting
personal agendas aside is expected. Planning and good communication
is essential. Listening to the suggestions, research, and experience
of those serving on respective commissions and boards before acting seems
like common sense.
Rick Albrecht, Ed Sipples, and Cathy Iino rise to the top of the heap as
folks who focus on what's best for Killingworth and its residents. They
seek and actually learn from opposing views. Once informed, they act prudently. Each
has considerable skill sets and decades of experiences contributing to
the town and organizations. Albrecht, Sipples, and Iino genuinely
listen before acting, cooperate with others, and respect our Charter and
residents. They care.
Albrecht is a Veteran - both of the US Armed Services and the office of
First Selectman. He brings with him knowledge, wisdom, leadership
skills, patience, consistent consideration of opposing views, and an instinctive
approach that genuinely balances town and residents' needs. Sipples
is also a veteran of the BoS and brings decades of civic involvement and
volunteerism to the table. He continues to be elected because, despite
the current First Selectman's ranting slights, Sipples stays the course
- asking questions, calling individuals to be informed, fair, honest and
prudent. Iino is an amazing woman. On the Board of Finance,
as on the Library Board or PAYT, she carefully weighs competing needs. Despite
a non-confrontational style, Iino effectively builds vision, becomes informed,
forms cohesive teams, and brings visions to fruition. Imagine that,
she's effective without confrontation! What a novel idea.
Vote for Albrecht - Sipples - Iino on November 6th.
