Volunteers Needed
I have served on three Town Committees and
have found the experiences fulfilling and meaningful. There are
several committees in Killingworth that desperately need members
and I would like to take this opportunity to encourage folks to
get involved.
Most committees meet once a month and all provide
valuable service to the Town. It's a great way to get involved,
meet new people and contribute to the community. A long time ago,
someone told
me I should stop complaining from the sidelines and get involved,
and I am very glad I did - it has been a very rewarding experience.
You don't have to be politically active and in fact in my experience,
there is actually very little "politics" involved in the working
of these committees - it's just people who care about Killingworth
rolling up their sleeves, working together and getting involved.
One of the committees I am on, the Killingworth Housing
Partnership, is a great example and we need new members. Whether
you are Republican or Democrat, it is difficult to disagree with
the premise of our committee (although of course you might, which I
fully appreciate), which is to find ways to create housing that is
more affordable (NOT "Affordable Housing" - big difference) to our
seniors, teachers, firefighters, first responders, town employees,
empty-nesters who are long-term residents and to help initiate starter
housing opportunities for young folks who have lived in Killingworth
all their lives but can't afford to buy a home here. We absolutely do
not want to create a metropolis but we do want to find ways to
help the people of THIS community while maintaining
it's rural character. I believe it's a noble cause and we're making
great progress. You may wish to read our interim
report to see
what we're about and if you would be interested in getting involved,
please contact me at rob@artusgroup.com.
It is a valuable committee with important goals.
However, there are several other important Town committees
also looking for members and whether it's the Housing Partnership
or another committee, I ask and encourage you to get involved - you
will enjoy the experience of contributing to the community and your
efforts will be appreciated. Don't complain from the sidelines -
get involved and make a difference. Thanks for reading this far.
