To the Editor:
My family moved to Killingworth almost 17 years ago. Being a displaced
New Yorker, I knew no one. I thought it would be a good idea to attend
some town meetings to meet my neighbors and see what was going on
in K-town.
The very first meeting I attended was at the firehouse. This meeting
was so "hot" that it was Standing Room Only! The reason
for this meeting? To discuss the acquisition of the Venuti property!
The proposal was shot down. I learned that this was not the first
time the town was offered this spectacular parcel of land. Over the
years since, this issue was brought to the table over and over again.
And here we are, once again “discussing” the Venuti property!
Will it never end?
I realize that my voice is small, but I honestly believe that the
town should purchase this property. And they should do it now as
opposed to in the future. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to have
a town park, a place for kids and families to enjoy for years to
come? I only wish that they had acted upon this way back when so
my kids could have spent their summers swimming at the local lake
and hanging with their friends in a community environment over the
years.
I fear that if the town passes up on this opportunity this time,
the Venuti family will have no other recourse but to finally end
this back and forth by choosing some other option that would lock
the town out. Do we really want that? Make your voices heard. As
we have seen with this past presidential election, small voices joined
as one can truly make a difference!
