To the Editor:
I recently saw a primary election poster sponsored by The “Real” Republican Team. As a registered Republican in town for the past 25 years, I always thought I was a real Republican, but apparently I’m not as I am in favor of electing the most qualified individuals to serve in our town administration regardless of their party affiliation. No surprise then that I fully endorse the slate that The Killingworth Republican Town Committee has put forward comprised of many outstanding individuals that have and continue to serve this town very well.
Like many others in our country, I have long been disappointed and frustrated by some of our state and federal legislators who claim to represent their constituents at election time, but in reality are self serving, partisan, career politicians. They are in deed most interested in pursuing their personal and party agendas in spite of rather than because of us voters. Influence and power appear to be the prize rather than the simple public service they promise.
That’s why I like living in a small town where for the most part we volunteer our time and vote for what we feel is in the best interest of the community. The majority of us, I believe, are not interested in the partisan political machines of the bigger cities, but rather want experienced and representative candidates who are dedicated to the Town rather than the party. Perhaps that means we’re not “real” Republicans or Democrats. Well, in view of the national political circus the media brings to us every day, that’s just fine by me.
I encourage all Killingworth Republicans to vote on Tuesday September 15th and show just how “real” we are in this town, always have been, and hopefully always will be.
