Having been raised in the charming little town
of Litchfield, I am quite familiar with small-town politics, but
it appears a couple of Killingworth citizens have taken it to ridiculous,
actually laughable, heights. Ms Baron blasting Mr Samperi for not
having read Goodwin's mass-media publication, and then actually
telling us what Lincoln would find acceptable in a particular political
situation, sent me rollicking! How presumptuous and funny. Reading
Goodwin hardly makes a scholar.
But, here is Killingworth, acreage between two major highways, I-80
and I-81, with no discernible center or sense of "country town". Traffic
moves through this town at high speeds, including traffic on "country" roads.
Some roads, such as Roast Meat Hill Road, which happens to be the
road on which I regrettably live, has idiots driving at up to 60
mph. What is done? Nothing. Is there any concern about a neighborhood
or quality of life for families living on these roads? No. And Roast
Meat is only one of many such roads in this town with this problem.
It is, indeed, the Wild West.
A traffic committee was formed more than one year ago. What is their
finding? Hard to know. Utter silence isn't a response. Perhaps it
will take a speeder hitting a child on a bicycle for this traffic
committee to come out of their deep sleep.
Many, many town residents are unhappy with the speeding situation.
Why put up speed tracking boxes on telephone poles if no information
is collected and acted upon regarding individual drivers who continuously
whiz through here, some several times each day? Complaints by neighbors
have been made. Neighbors have actually chased down speeders out
of their frustration and fear for their children. Wild West, indeed.
Personally, I'm a one-issue resident. Whoever will take on this issue
gets my vote -- and the vote of many others, I'm sure. So let go
of Lincoln and get to the business of making this town provide quality
of life for all citizens.
