To the Editor:

The September 15th Republican Primary fast approaches and I feel it is time we all remember what is of prime importance after we sift through all the commotion. What I believe to be most the most important issue is what is ultimately in the best interests of the citizens of Killingworth and who is best able to represent those interests.

As I enter my eleventh year as an elected official in your government, it has been my distinct pleasure to have personally worked with Selectman Fred Dudek, First Selectman Richard Cabral, Treasurer Claudette Lagasse, and Town Clerk Linda Dudek. I find their abilities and performances to be nothing short of outstanding and highly professional.  The results speak for themselves, a community that is quite financially sound, with an affordable financial and capital plan in place for the future, a stable mil rate, and capital projects moving forward at an affordable pace. Richard and Fred have played key roles in this success.

Our Treasurer, Claudette Lagasee and manages our financial accounts, develops handles our banking relationships, has consistently grown our reserves, and reports on our financial status with impeccably accurate detail.  Town Clerk Linda Dudek continues to manage the Office of Town Clerk most professionally and is driving the special projects of Records Codification, the development of a Records Management System using advanced technology, and Historic Document Preservation toward successful conclusions. I might add that these projects are largely funded through grant dollars that Linda has sought and secured.

As we approach what I believe to be an extremely challenging next two years the choice we Republicans have is to entrust our town’s future to those who have proven themselves more than capable of meeting and successfully conquering difficult problems, and always making decisions in the best interests of Killingworth, or to hand the reins of government to those with little experience questionable understanding of both the issues as well as the basic functioning of our local government, and who have unfortunately played fast loose with accurate information on many issues. The choice is yours. Please be sure to vote on September 15th and make that important choice.

John W. McMahon / Chairman, Killingworth Board of Finance / Past Chair Killingworth Republican Town Committee
