To the Editor:
We are a Democrat and a Republican, but we both know how important the upcoming Republican primary is. At least one of the candidates elected in Tuesday’s Primary will join the Board of Selectmen in November. This will occur because the Democratic Caucus is running only one candidate, Richard Albrecht, with First Selectman candidate Cathy Iino on the November ballot. But, two Selectmen must be elected. Thus, one of the two victors of Tuesday’s Primary is guaranteed a seat on the Board of Selectmen.
We wholeheartedly endorse Claudette Lagasse, Linda Dudek, and Fred Dudek for their considerable contributions and their integrity. These incumbents have collectively and constructively served Killingworth in municipal roles for about a hundred years, while their challengers have served our town collectively about one year. 100 years of experience compared to 1. No ambiguity there.
One of the most compelling attributes of our town, beyond its rural splendor, is the dedication of our community’s volunteers and appointed or elected officials regardless of party affiliation. We have recently observed this general non-partisan, collegial work of our Town’s servants firsthand. While not perfect, this constructive, problem-solving focus has benefited us all in many ways.
In contrast, the Republican Primary challengers’ divisive mantra has been uninformed at best, destructive at worst. We served on the Charter Revision Commission and have found the challengers’ intentional spread of misinformation unsettling – in particular, their suggestion that several employees will lose their jobs. That is simply not true. The challengers’ rhetoric represents their style if elected.
If you’re Republican, please make an effort to vote between 6 am and 8 pm at KES next Tuesday, the 15th or contact the Town Clerk to obtain an absentee ballot. Your vote does matter.
Respectfully,
Jamie M. Young and Susan Adinolfo
