To the Editor: In an effort to be all things to all people all the time and vilify the Republican Ticket with the ghost of Mr. Denvir, Mr. Klein once again demonstrates his lack of knowledge about our Town Hall organization and operations. First, at a meeting with the Killingworth Seniors, Mr. Klein stated that the Board of Finance reviews all invoices prior to payment. Wrong! That would be the responsibility of the 1st Selectman, the Selectmen and the Treasurer. Three nights later at the Charter Revision Commission public input session, Mr. Klein said that the Tax Collector and the Assessor should be appointed. The fact is that the Assessor is appointed. Perhaps, one might read the Town Charter before one makes recommendations. Now Mr. Klein, unhappy over AFSCME Council 4's endorsement of Mr. Amport, says that "It's surprising considering the ongoing labor dispute between Killingworth's Republican administration and town employees" Fact is, AFSCME employees collectively bargained a new four year contract over a year ago. The ongoing labor negotiations are between the town and the Killingworth Municipal Employees Association (KMEA). The real question is, what else doesn't Mr. Klein know about the organization and operation of our town government and how long would it take for him to get up to speed. I for one don't want to wait. We need a 1st Selectman with the experience necessary to take on the challenges on November 22nd, 2005. We need John Amport James Cutler |
