To the Editor:

The Killingworth Democratic Town Committee would like to respond to David LeVasseur's recent letter. Mr. LeVasseur references previous Democratic support for his candidacy. However, this endorsement was not for the David LeVasseur who wrote a scurrilous letter misrepresenting Marty Klein's position on what LeVasseur dubbed "affordable housing".

Marty Klein's position on the housing issue in Killingworth is consistent with the KDTC's: that rising home prices and escalating taxes are forcing some of our neighbors out of our community. It is a particular problem for the young people who volunteer for our fire and ambulance services, work as schoolteachers and contribute to our town's future. It is also a problem for our older, long-term residents with invaluable experience serving on our boards and commissions. His administration will work to find workable answers that will enable these citizens to continue to make Killingworth their home.

Mr. LeVasseur has appealed to the baser fears of our lesser angels. His misleading and inflammatory statements only serve to prove that our past trust in his leadership was misplaced.

His letter is an attempt at division, not inclusion. When he turns on his own successor, after supporting him twice, he leaves both his judgment and loyalty open to question. Throughout this campaign the Republicans have been running against their own track record.

Incidentally, Mr. LeVasseur, the "other candidate" has a name. It is Marty Klein, who has been your neighbor for over forty years.

Very Truly Yours,
The Killingworth Democratic Town Committee
