Dear Editor:

The very generous recent proposal by Eric Auer to build additional ball fields in Killingworth has been welcomed enthusiastically by the Board of Selectman.  In a town the size of Killingworth is it truly one of our greatest assets that individuals in the community have the talents and resources to accomplish such things.

While the idea of placing fields on the Bosco property is a great idea, the placement of a field on Bethke road is not.  Most of us moved away from towns where there were playgrounds and ball fields every block or so.  Those of us who did enjoy the open spaces surrounding our homes.

In a town where open space and natural beauty is our greatest asset it does not make sense to suburbanize our neighborhoods with infestructure that in a rural town like Killingworth, is better and more cost effectively suited to a centralized location.

While Old Town Killingworth Style development managed to produce Killingworth's only Recreational Complex, it is Old Town Killingworth Style shortsightedness that has resulted in a garbage dump and gas station parking lot being our town center.

I sincerely hope that we have leadership in this town that can foster the generosity of the citizens of Killingworth while at the same time forming a vision for how our town will look in the future.
