A Vision for Killingworth
by John Amport & Fred Dudek
September 30, 2005

We would like to address, as specifically as possible, what our vision is and how we intend to achieve those goals.

Maintaining Killingworth’s Rural Character

The rural character of Killingworth can only be maintained with a balanced approach that includes:

Planning open space acquisitions utilizing all of our potential partners like the DEP, Hammonassett Fishing Association, South Central CT Regional Water Authority, KLCT, Madison Rod & Gun Club, and the Nature Conservancy to name a few.

Carefully identifying current and future municipal land use needs for recreation and future infrastructure will allow us to have what we need when we need it at a reasonable cost.

Protecting our environment (and thereby our property values) through the strong support of our land use agencies, boards and commissions and the maximization, maintenance and modernization of facilities such as the transfer station and septic lagoons. These actions will help guarantee high water quality for all residents.

Open, Timely & Responsible Government

The First Selectman will foster open communication with and among the citizens of Killingworth. As the Chief Administrative Officer, he will be the full time, hands-on manager of the $4,000,000 enterprise we call our municipal government. Through the business of planning, organizing and controlling that organization, he will ensure that plans and priorities are set, budgets are reasonable and accurate and that all areas of government execute to their plan.

Fiscal Responsibility

With educational cost rising, it is essential that the financial impact of any proposed municipal projects be carefully evaluated. We believe, that through proper planning and management, the impact of needed capital expenditures can be minimized. Tighter financial controls as recommended by the Town’s Auditor and the Board of Finance will be implemented so that taxpayer dollars are better protected. We will work to get real Town Government involvement in the RSD17’s budget process.

Volunteerism

The encouragement and promotion of volunteerism in Killingworth is a key element in the character of Killingworth. The participation of its citizens in Town Government, The Fire Company, The Ambulance Association, The Library, The Chamber of Commerce and the numerous civic and service organizations is key in maintaining the quality of life and stable taxes. This is a major priority of every member of the Republican Team.

The Killingworth Republican Team has the vision, experience and leadership to make this a reality.
